In the last episode, Naveel was told by Myron to gather Dawn Petals that could be used to fight the corruption in a pendant owned by the Chantrelles. It seemed to be the cause of their malevolent behavior. Naveel found the Dawn Petal tree, but the spirit there asked for him to free its brother, another spirit trapped by the young necromantic witch, Cisha Impilo. He successfully freed the spirit she had trapped, but was subsequently trapped himself. He is now magically bound in the child’s hut, and she wants to play.

Navell grinned as naturally as he could manage. “Hey, why don’t we play hide and seek!”
The little girl grinned, her missing front teeth creating a sense of innocence. “You just want me to hide my eyes so that you can run away.”
That would have been too easy, Naveel thought, but he had to try it. “Ok, what do you want to play then?”
Cisha put her hands behind her back, looked up at the ceiling, and began to fidget. “Hmmm, how about…Puppet!”
“Puppet, what is…” Naveel began, then he realized she was uttering another spell. He recognized it as Suggestion.

She finished the spell, grinning. Naveel tried to achieve a blank look his eyes, hoping it would convince her that her spell had the intended effect. She waved a hand and the ropes binding him fell away.
“Now, dance with me!” she giggled and she began to twirl around, humming a tuneless song loudly.
Naveel rose to his feet and began to twirl around beside her, his ponytail swinging out behind his head. Every circle he made, he tried to gather information about his surroundings. The skeletal cat made eye contact with him, nodding every time he passed it. So, it was trapped here too.
The cat suddenly darted out the door, as cats are prone to do, sprinting after some unseen prey. “Kitty! Come back here!” Cisha shouted with delight, and she ran out of the door after it.
Naveel knew that though Cisha was a child, she was far more powerful than he, magically. If he tried to cast a spell on her, it would likely fail. He grabbed his dropped things, and darted out the door as well.
Mythic, is Cisha within eyesight? 49 Yes.
The cat had run up a nearby tree, mewling helplessly on a high branch. Cisha was looking up at it pouting.
“Poor kitty, you’ve got yourself in a bad spot.” She looked back at Naveel, standing in the doorway. She frowned at him. “Come here, Puppet.”
Naveel smiled woodenly, hoping to keep up the ruse. He mechanically marched over to the girl. She giggled.
“Walk normally, silly.” And she patted his arm. “I’m going to lift kitty down from the branch with my magic. You grab her when she’s down so she can’t run away again.”
A spectral hand appeared, and Cisha made puppeteer movements with her hands to guide it up to the cat, stuck in the tree. Just as it was about to clutch the bony animal, the cat hissed and leaped down. Directly onto the head and face of the young girl. Scratching wildly with its sharp claws.
Naveel winced, he didn’t want to see the girl hurt, but likewise, he didn’t want to be trapped here either. He bolted from the scene, casting Resilient Friendship on the skeletal remains. Just as he passed into the tree line, the cat skeleton fell apart as the spirit left the body.
Cisha wailed in pain and fury. And sadness.

Naveel pointed a finger at Cisha, and a small bolt of electricity sprang forth and shocked the little girl.
“Ow!” she yelled, rubbing at where the arc had slightly burned her arm. She stomped her foot and finished her own Charm Person spell. Try as he might, Naveel was unable to resist her compulsion, and he felt the feeling of friendship come over him for the little girl.
“That hurt, meanie,” she pouted.
He walked back over to where she stood, looking down at the red spot on her arm where his Jolt had hit.
“I’m sorry, Cisha. I just wanted to go help my other friends. And you were trying to stop me.” He squatted down in front of her and tried to make eye contact.
“I want you to be my friend though,” she whined.
“I am your friend,” that was not what he had wanted to say, but it came out, nonetheless. The charm was in full effect.
“Where are your other friends at?”
“Matango Village.”
“Oh,” she looked at her feet sadly. “They don’t like me there.”
“Maybe you can come with me, and we can convince them you are a nice girl. And maybe you won’t trap spirits against their will?”

“No, they don’t want me there. My own parents made me move out here, and they don’t even come to visit. Only the old sage, Myron.”
“That must be very lonely,” Naveel said, and he patted the girl’s arm. He genuinely felt bad for this child, who originally, he had been afraid of. Now, the reality hit him of just how lonely and sad she must be out here by herself. He was sure it was not even the Charm making him think that.
Out of nowhere, the skeletal cat sauntered back up to them both. Its purr reverberated hollowly through its bony chest.
“Kitty!” Cisha cried. And she hugged the bony figure to her little chest. Tears streamed down her face. The cat looked at Naveel and nodded.
“If you release me from your spell and promise to let Kitty come and go as she pleases, I think you will be much happier. And you’ll get more friends that way.” She gave her his best, most handsome smile.
She waved her hand in the air, and stood with the cat dangling in her arms. He felt the compulsion leave him as she walked back to her cottage, stroking the bony skull of the cat and showering it with kisses. She had completely put him out of her mind.
He smiled sadly at the retreating child, determined to speak on her behalf to the villagers. It was a true shame she was out here by herself.
